A Beanstalk Partner

Badger Learning is delighted to announce that Beanstalk (formerly Volunteer Reading Help) have been selected as our Charity of the Year for 2014.

1 in 7 children in Britain left primary school in 2013 with a below average literacy level for their age. Beanstalk is a national literacy charity that recruits, vets, trains and supports volunteers to work in primary schools with children who have fallen behind with their reading. Our vision is a nation of confident children who can read and grow up to lead successful lives.

Beanstalk reading helpers work with children on a one-to-one basis, giving them their full attention and support to improve reading levels, increase overall confidence and inspire a lifelong love of reading. With Beanstalk's support the child's approach to learning and enjoying reading is often transformed.

Beanstalk is happy to support and recommend Badger Learning. Beanstalk reading helpers find that the Badger Learning Hi-Lo readers are an excellent resource for engaging reluctant readers; the subject matter works well for 8-13 year old children who have a reading age of between 7.5 and 8, while the varied genres of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and play scripts keep even the most reluctant reader engaged.

Schools can now help raise funds for the charity by simply quoting BEAN10 when ordering resources online or via the order hotline (01438 893557). Beanstalk will receive 10% of the net proceeds.
