First Chapter Readers for KS1 (Age 5–7)

Enable young readers to have the experience of choosing a book independently but at the right level of reading challenge still. This collection of first chapter books is perfect for Year 2 readers or very confident Year 1 children and whilst it encourages free choice still there aren’t any books that will be considered an inappropriate choice even if the Book Bands are loosely followed and picked through.

This pack has been put together to nurture children in this first step of independence and to develop reading stamina, intrigue, interest, enjoyment, and fluency. All of the books have illustration and will build in chapter length, book length, number of chapters as well as sentence length, structure, story complexity, vocabulary and more.
