It’s that time of year where the team at Badger Learning start to gear up for the October TES Special Educational Needs Show.

As ever, the show last year was an enlightening experience; it was rewarding to spend so much time talking to industry professionals, showcasing our new publications and discussing new ideas and possibilities.

After last year’s show, we went away refreshed and buzzing with new ideas for the coming year. The cogs of the Badger machine began to turn, and we put in motion a variety of new series that we can’t wait to talk about at the show, some of which were published over the past year, and some which are building anticipation for January next year – sure to cure those wintery blues!

Some things to look forward to from Badger:

Additionally, always looking to expand our portfolio, some of our marketing team have made a foray into interior design, putting to good use our materials from the last SEN show. Look out for Badger wallpaper – it’s sure to be all the rage.

In all seriousness, we cannot emphasise enough the value of SEN resources to support inclusive learning for all, and while resources designed to teach specific skills and practices are essential, accessible reading books are the foundation for building investment and confidence in an act that so many of us take for granted.

Our remit to create attractive and inspiring yet accessible fiction and non-fiction seems as needed as ever. The National Literacy Trust states that “One person in six in the UK lives with poor literacy”. We have to combat this sad problem by grabbing the interest of reluctant and struggling readers as early as possible – using realistic yet ‘real’ books that encourage rather than exclude.

We always obtain valuable feedback from the TES SEN show and our publishing is directly influenced by informed collective input. So come and give us your view! There might even be freebies, and a chance to win some of our new publications. Not to mention the chance to meet some lovely people (if we do say so ourselves).
