And here is an exclusive first look at some of the characters from The League of Enchanted Heroes, as well as some of the illustrator's early notes about them.

R.R. Hood - I see her as being post-wolf-encounter here. She's an A-Grade monster hunter now, specialising in Big Bad Wolves.

Rapunzel - Pushed her origin a little further east from central Europe to Russia. In contrast to Hood's earthy, tomboyish nature, Rapunzel is prim and graceful (but not haughty). She uses her hair almost like a gymnast's ribbon in combat, moving like a ballerina. Given her own encounter with a witch in the past, there could also be tension between her and Gretel.

Jack - School uniform, with a couple of individual touches (trainers, untucked shirt/tie) to enforce that he's not necessarily a habitual conformist. After all, a conformist wouldn't be likely to go on a big adventure, right?

Tom Thumb - Our Rocket Raccoon/Wolverine. Diminutive, aggressive. Smallest, but oldest of the team. I put the luchador theme in there as a present to myself (I love lucha libre). In a perfect world he'd always be smoking a cigar, but this is an all-ages book, after all.

Hansel - After a traumatic experience like the Gingerbread House Incident, I see Hansel and Gretel being changed, a little darker for their ordeal. Hansel has repurposed the unusual properties of the witch's candy house into a witch-hunting arsenal, betraying a penchant for irony.

Gretel - I figure maybe she took the witch's hat as a trophy, and it might be starting to affect her. This could cause tension between her and Hansel down the road.
