Badger GCSE Science Working Scientifically: Biology

Dr Andrew Chandler-Grevatt & Dr Deborah Shah-Smith

Developed by teachers to give colleagues a range of resources to use in teaching science through the Working Scientifically principles; Badger GCSE Science Working Scientifically activities for GCSE Biology underpin the National Curriculum. Suitable for use in all schools, whichever exam board they use, with the activities working well as an 'add on' to any of the KS4 programmes of study, these Badger Learning science resources are a vital tool.

These resources provide insightful content on the new approach to science teaching. Each book contains over 60 information sheets and activities. One of a series of three books, GCSE Working Scientifically: Biology features activities designed to improve knowledge and understanding, encouraging structured discussion in the classroom and helps learners to consider a range of viewpoints and make an informed decision.

The GCSE Working Scientifically: Biology tasks boost background knowledge and help learners to consider evidence from a range of contexts and make a decision, with most tasks having differentiation suggestions for mixed ability. Many students do not have the vital background knowledge about scientific issues, making it hard for them to discuss the issues and form an opinion. These activities will bridge this gap and promote an understanding of Biology in the classroom.

These teaching resources are also an effective time management tool; each activity has an allocated time to help plan lessons and homework tasks. The GCSE Biology activities take a variety of forms to help focus the students on the nature of evidence or facts in the context of this activity to encourage discussion. Activities include: data analysis, graph drawing, predicting activities and card sorts.
