Hands-on Maths Year 3
Hands-on Maths for Year 3 offers a 10 minute activity per day based upon the use of readily available classroom objects or 'manipulatives’ such as counters, shells, cars, dice, bricks and more. The series supports a concrete-pictorial-abstract approach to help pupils’ develop mastery of key mathematical concepts and National Curriculum objectives.

Divided into 6 weeks per mathematical topic area (6 areas: counting, representing numbers, place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and Fractions) each page provides 5 short daily activities for the week.
The 6 week programme overview for Year 3 in Fractions is:
Week 1: Count up and down in tenths
Week 2: Recognise, find and write fractions of a discrete set of objects
Week 3: Recognise and use fractions as numbers
Week 4: Recognise, and show fractions using diagrams, equivalent fractions with small denominators
Week 5: Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator within one whole
Week 6: Compare and order unit fractions, and fractions with the same denominator
