ELS: Essential Phonic Readers Class Pack

Six copies of each of the 54 phonic reading books for the validated systematic synthetic phonics programme, Essential Letters and Sounds. Fully aligned to Letters and Sounds (2007) this programme provides lesson plans, classroom resources, teacher training and quality reading books from The Knowledge Trust and English Hub with supporting books provided by the UK’s most renowned educational publisher, Oxford. Schools who are familiar with Oxford reading books will find reference to the Oxford Level, book band and L & S Phase on the back cover of every book. Subscription to Essential Letters and Sounds will provide guidance on when to ‘unlock’ the matching reading book for each of the teaching weeks, ensuring children take home books that they can read and will enjoy re-reading 3 to 4 times. These exquisite readers are diverse and include exciting fiction and non-fiction texts that are representative and inclusive so that all readers can see themselves in books. Reading books could be matched to a Letters and Sounds (2007) based reading programme.

Books contain the GPC’s and harder to read and spell words (HRSW’s) in line with the teaching of the ELS programme and Phases 2–5 . Within this programme, books will be shared each Friday in the classroom. Regular ‘review books’ provide an opportunity to revisit sounds learned and consolidate, allowing staff the ability to review children’s learning and progress.

Suitable for:  Children at Oxford Reading Levels 1+–7, Pink to Turquoise Book Band, 5–6-year-olds, Reception/ Primary 1, Year 1/Primary 2. Letters and Sounds Phases 2–6

This pack contains six copies of each of the Essential Phonic Readers (54). All 324 books will be fully fitted with a protective book jacket to help books to last longer.
