Reading Stars Phonics

Reading Stars Phonics is a comprehensive systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) reading scheme that can support any SSP programme following the Letters and Sounds progression. It is fully aligned with Unlocking Letters and Sounds, a DfE validated SSP programme from Ransom developed in collaboration with two English Hubs — Unlocking Excellence and Mangotsfield Primary. Designed by phonics teachers, this programme has been tested in class and aligns with the DfE Reading Framework and early reading best practice. It supports the lowest performing 20% of students and is completely integrated with the fully decodable reading programme, ensuring complete fidelity between reading books and the teaching programme.

Each book contains detailed information on every phoneme and common exception word introduced or consolidated, clearly displayed on the back cover. This feature enables schools to organise teaching and select appropriate books to send home in any given teaching week.

Alpha Stars

Alpha Stars introduces children to the letters of the alphabet and the common sounds taught in the UK government’s Letters and Sounds programme. The series consists of 26 books covering the alphabet, along with an additional 23 books that provide a colourful introduction to phonemes.

Reading Stars Achieve Phonics

For some children, mastering phonics takes longer. Reading Stars Achieve Phonics is designed for pupils aged 7 to 14 who have yet to read fluently with understanding. Aimed at Key Stages 2 & 3, these 98 fully decodable phonics readers follow the Letters and Sounds progression (Phases 2 to 5). These dyslexia-friendly books feature diverse stories, engaging topics, and inclusive characters, as well as non-fiction titles. With age-appropriate subjects, illustrations, and photographs, the series provides a meaningful and rewarding reading experience for older learners still developing their reading skills.
