ELS: Essential Phonic Readers Review Books Class Pack

Six sets of each of the 37 phonic reading ‘Review’ books for The Knowledge Trust’s validated SSP programme, Essential Letters and Sounds, aligned fully to Letters and Sounds (2007). ‘Review’ books allow children to consolidate learning and practise previously taught phonemes. They can supplement the Essential Phonic Readers books, offering more books per week to practise previously learned GPC’s.

Schools who are familiar with Oxford reading books will find reference to the Oxford Level, book band and L & S Phase on the back cover of every book. Subscription to Essential Letters and Sounds will provide guidance on when to ‘unlock’ each reading book in the teaching weeks or use our handy guide here.

Children take home books that they can access and will enjoy reading again and again. The quality readers are diverse and include exciting fiction and non-fiction texts that are representative and inclusive. Reading books could be matched to a Letters and Sounds (2007) based reading programme.

Within this programme, books will be shared each Friday in the classroom and then taken home. Review books are ‘unlocked’ on week 5 of each half term (6 teaching weeks) and other specified weeks in accordance to the programme. Books contain the GPC’s and harder to read and spell words (HRSW’s) in line with the teaching of the ELS programme and Phases.

Suitable for:  Children at Oxford Reading Levels 1+–7, Pink to Turquoise Book Band, 5–6-year-olds, Reception/ Primary 1, Year 1/Primary 2. Phase 2–5

This pack contains six copies of each of the Essential Phonic Review Readers (222 books) fully fitted with a free protective book jacket to extend its longevity in school.
