Age 5-7: Eco-Awareness Through Stories

A wonderful teaching toolbox of must-have picture books with a strong environmental message to really engage KS1 children. This collection of books is a very relevant addition to the library, but could also be used for school assembly introductions, class assemblies, at eco-team meetings, to make KS1 story times fun but poignant and get children talking about their role in protecting the planet for the future. Discussion themes include: keeping beaches clean and plastic out of the sea or rivers; community action; pollution from cars; de-forestation; repairing and recycling; human impact on nature; light pollution and the importance of bees. Picture books are a powerful tool for learning, whether this is unobtrusively during a fun story time, or as a teaching aid in PSHE, geography and science.
