Author Submissions — WOW! Fiction
Would you like to write a story for our next series? We are currently open to submissions for further titles in our upcoming series WOW! Fiction. Titles in this new series will be thematically matched to titles in our best-selling non-fiction series WOW! Facts.
These will be low-level books for reluctant and struggling readers, with a reading age of 6.5–8 years (book bands white, lime and brown), an interest age of 7–14 years and a word count between 1600–2500 divided into a minimum of six chapters. All books will be edited and levelled by a literacy consultant, so even if you don’t have experience in writing for a specific reading age you can still submit!
No previous book deal is necessary but an engaging voice, relatable content and an excellent standard of written English is essential. Knowledge of children's literature is also key as you need to know good stories to write good stories!
If you are interested in writing for any of these titles, we are inviting authors to submit a 200–300 word pitch per book by the 12th of May 2023. All successful authors will be contacted by the 26th of May. Finished manuscripts will be due in by the 16th of July 2023. Due to the amount of submissions received, we cannot reply to authors who were unsuccessful.

They will be aimed at both primary and secondary schools, so the characters should be relatable and storylines relevant. The books can be any genre, as long as it links to the non-fiction counterpart. We would particularly love to see humorous storylines as well as authentic representation of the following; mental health, neurodiversity, living in poverty, blended families.
Please refrain from using any swear words or phrases that will date too easily in these titles. As these titles must be suitable for UKS2, please do not include any romantic relationships. Do not use any brand names or actual social media sites or apps.
